Today, I thought I would upload some of the many photos I'm basing my Hong Kong project on. I am a bit snap-happy to say the least, so would be interested to know how many photos I manage to take over the last year...
These ones here are some of the photos I took to document and draw from when I ended up getting a chance to put pen to paper. I really love to draw from life and have spent many a day sitting outside in freezing cold England on a portable pink stool (not my choice in colour, but needs = must! hehe)scribbling away while my fingers turn blue. It's actually quite enjoyable but not always practical with the upredictable weather and also how long it takes to finish one drawing. So yes, I do draw from photos sometimes. I think it's fine, because generally the illustration turns into something much different from the photo. I always like to think I'm drawing 'about' the image, and not 'of' the image...
So here they are. I hope you like them. They aren't at all arty, well-framed photos...they are more to document everything....

Too much in my head
So it's an epic fail today on uploading any pictures.
Have been perusing other people's blogs and generally coveying them! Once you've come across one that ticks all the boxes it's hard not to feel overwhelmingly excited about the feast of images on the page. It's much different from finding one hidden gem amongst the general mass of images you can find on google. That, I can handle. I'll see if I can get some time together to post some links tomorrow.
So, I've managed to collate a few tips and ideas for my blog so that I can build it up a little bit and personalise it. (I hate that I don't have the know-how to make my blog instantly amazing...patience Kirsty, patience.)
Anyways, have been trying to arrange a exhibitio which I should hopefully have some dates for soon...
That's all for today!

Switch the Radio off, and get more done...apparantly
A very very busy day at work, made better when I switched the Radio off...hadn't realised it was bothering me that much until the sound of silence filled the air. Lovely! I guess I'm tired of hearing the same songs on constant repeat.
Rifling through my sketchbooks and things today, and came across a drawing I did when I was doing my degree. I remember it was during a meeting, and further notes and scribbles on the reverse reveal it was involving the organisation of an exhibition. Must have decided it would much more interesting to put pen to paper, or perhaps I concentrate better when I'm drawing? Who knows! Either way I don't think I intended to make it, it just happened.
Would like to find some time to work into this illustration, but the Hong Kong drawings are top priority so we shall see.
Let's see what I can come up with for tomorrow's blog...

Fixing up my Blog!
Ok, so I think I've come to the conclusion that I have been a pretty awful blogger. My last post was well over a year ago!
I would really quite like to change that, and have been pondering about starting from scratch. But then I would lose all my previous posts (boooo!). SO, I've decided to spruce up my blog a little bit with a touch of colour and a little illustration. AND I'm going to do a little experiment, and see if I can post a blog every day for the next seven days without running out of things to say/little drawings to post! Mainly I'd like to use it as a diary for my illustration work. Kind of like the PDP we were always told we must have during our degree.
Stick around....it could get interesting!
Just to get me started, here are some photos of an illustration I've been working on (squeezed in between work!) It's a drawing of a beautiful building in Hong Kong with Chinese shutters, lots of tropical plants, cracked paving and an upstairs business with brand new shiny Western windows. An interesting mix of elements! I'm drawing on narrow fax roll, which I love to do as I can keep adding more and more to the height of the drawing until I either reach the top of the building, or until I decide it's finished!
I'm hopefully going to be doing a group exhbition late spring, and would quite like to base my work that I show on my last year in Hong Kong, so I hope that this illustration will become a part of that project and it'll all take shape nicely.
In other news, I moved back to the UK November 2009, but am still working for the lovely company that hired me. I should probably see if I'm allowed to post photos of my designs that I've been working on for them for the past year. Will keep you posted. They are so very different from the art that I do, but I love it!
Anyways, I think that's enough talk! Until tomorrow...(I promise)
